On 18 March 2026, initiated by Fabio Masini and Susanna Cafaro, we discussed possibilities for “Future Projects” and decided to embark on what Fabio referred to as a “journey.”
On 23 September 2026 – almost exactly six months later – we reached a first significant milestone in our journey. We submitted the Horizon Europe GoGlobalClimate project proposal, with Fabio Masini and the renowned Roma Tre University (Roma3) as coordinator.
The project, titled “The New Successful Global Governance for Climate”, has an overall budget of €4 million and a duration of four years. It was submitted under the most suitable call for our activities and mission: “Governing global commons sustainably – Area A: Climate”.
With 23 renowned partners (11 Universities, 9 Civic society and highly specialist organisations, and 3 media corporations) the GoGlobalClimate project will ask in our view crucial questions. History shows science can shatter the limits of the possible – from Copernicus’ heliocentrism to the prospect of life on Mars, quantum computing, or lifespans beyond 200 years.
- Why not global democracy, based on the success story from the European Union (EU)?
- Why not global binding markets for all “Planetary Boundary” resources, starting with a global market for “greenhouse gas” (GHG) emissions and based on the success story from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS)?
- Why not obligatory global reporting, accounting, and auditing for “Planetary Boundary” resources, starting with GHG emissions?
- Why not a global culture that celebrates plurality while transcending nationalism?
The GoGlobalClimate project includes partners from 4 continents (Europe, Africa, Oceania, and North America) and spans 15 countries – 9 of them are EU member states, reflecting our commitment to a truly global perspective.
