Research, innovation, and technology have delivered fantastic progress for humanity. Yet, innovation does not necessarily mean progress. This ambiguity is becoming a new quality, since innovations within the 21^st century tend to have a global impact (e.g., developments around “artificial intelligence“, “robotics“, “quantum computing“, “social media“, “pornography“, and “weapons of mass destruction“). Based on this observation we want to further investigate this – in our view – most critical tension in the 21^st century: New Technologies are neither inherently “good” nor “bad” – they are “tools” whose impact depends on how we govern them. Fur us, the clear reference for the judgment, evaluation, and decision weather a technology is “good” or “bad” is the concept “health“. To develop a healthy and thus sustainable society, we research new forms of governance for technology based on global democracy.
