Trump administration acknowledges global warming

Karl Baumann, March 29, 2025March 29, 2025

With the official trip from Mr. Vance et al. to Greenland, the Trump administration most importantly acknowledges global warming.

The press conference from Mr. Vance “visiting” Greenland, March 28, 2025 (e.g. Forbes Breaking News) reveals, the Trump administration acts like the Putin administration with the “peaceful” annexation of Krim 2014. The thinking shows the same pattern (take some more or less real enemy – Russia, China, talk about some weakness – Denmark, and pretend to have the simple solution – USA “protecting” Greenland).

The “good news” about the trip from Mr. Vance and the Trump administration to Greenland is its hidden acknowledgment of global warming.

March 21, 2025 was the “1st World Day for Glaciers“, UNESCO gave a clear insight that the livelihood from potentially 2 (not thousand, not million, but) billion people depend on glaciers.

With over 2 billion people relying on glacier and snowmelt for freshwater—and projections showing that one-third of glacier sites could disappear by 2050—raising awareness and taking action to protect these vital ecosystems has never been more urgent.

Moreover, the melting Greenland ice shield will cause one of the first climate tipping points and will produce one of the first self-reinforcing cycles with global warming.

The Trump administration obviously understands global warming and the melting ice shields from Greenland. But, they think about global warming and the melding ice shields as a “business opportunity” for the USA with Greenland.

Melting ice is most obviously expected to bring valuable resources (e.g. oil) being possible to be exploited and commercialised.

The Trump administration is killing potentially (not hundreds, not millions, but) billions of people with that kind of devastating (geo)politics due to its opportunistic acting concerning global warming and its consequences on the livelihoods from billions of people (certainly also millions within the USA), devastating negative impact on the global economy, etc.

Global warming, climate change, and the loss of biodiversity will (very) soon be out of human control and potentially cause the by far greatest humanitarian catastrophe within the upcoming decades.

“Linear thinking”, like the one from the Trump administration, can easily be dismantled with changing the context. The actually important context of the “Greenland trip” is in our view the currently by far greatest (security) threat to humanity – global warming, climate change, and the loss of biodiversity.
